TADD
Training Aid Delivery Device
TADDs for K9 Scent Detection

The TADD (Training Aid Delivery Device) is a odor delivery system designed for professional K9 detection training. Developed by SciK9 and used worldwide, the TADD allows target odor to escape while securely containing the training aid itself, protecting both the dog and the odor source.

Precision Explosives partners with SciK9 to offer TADDs charged with our Odor Prints and polymer odor capture and release (POCR) media, giving you a complete, ready-to-deploy solution for explosives, narcotics, and bed bug detection training.
Why Use a TADD in K9 Training?

Traditional jars, tins, or bags can:

-
Add background odor
-
Allow contamination from the environment
-
Shorten the useful life of your training aids
-
Increase the handling risks for hazardous materials

The TADD is engineered to solve these problems by combining storage, containment, and odor delivery into one low-odor, rugged device. The TADD helps maintain odor purity, consistency, and safety.

Precision Explosives can supply the training aid pre-loaded. The aids are prepared in a clean environment to ensure purity and reduce cross-contamination and have tamper-evident seals to support chain of custody and internal documentation.

TADD + Precision Explosives Odor Prints

For explosives detection K9s, we offer TADDs pre-charged with Precision Explosives Odor Prints:

-
Odor Prints provide real, non-detonable explosives odor in a controlled, safe format
-
The TADD gives each Odor Print a clean, low-background environment, preserving the true target odor profile and preventing external contamination

Ideal combination for agencies that need scientifically validated explosives odors packaged in a professional, field-ready delivery system that can be safely deployed in a wide range of environments.

TADD and Polymer Odor Capture & Release Media

For narcotics and bed bug detection, Precision Explosives offers TADDs charged with polymer odor capture and release (POCR) media:

Narcotics TADDs:

-
Polymer media is infused with real narcotic odors in a controlled environment
-
Provides realistic narcotics odor without handling bulk contraband
-
Designed for consistent, repeatable odor presentations during training

Bed Bug TADDs:

-
Polymer media is infused with the odor of live bedbugs in a sterile environment
-
The material then slowly releases odor for approximately six months, supporting ongoing training
-
After the effective odor period, simply discard the used media and recharge the TADD with fresh material

These configurations help reduce risk, simplify logistics, and still provide real, builogically relevant odor for your K9 teams.

TADD Features

-
NASA low-outgassing compliant* materials: All TADD components are selected for extremely low volatile organic compounds (VOCs), so the primary odor your dog encounters is the training aid, not the container.

-
Inert and highly compatible with Precision Explosives Odor Prints: TADDs are inert and designed to work seamlessly with our Odor Prints, preserving odor integrity over the life of the aid.

-
Rugged, field-ready construction: Built for regular deployment, TADDs can be used daily in vehicles, buildings, luggage, rubble piles, and outdoor environments - anywhere your detection dogs train!

-
Reduced cross-contamination: The sealed system protects the training aid from saliva, dirt, dust, and human scent, helping keep high-value aids clean and consistent over time.

-
Cleanable: TADD components can be cleaned using standard methods and decontaminated or deodorized to remove human or environmental odors between deployments.

TADD Construction and Components

Jar Options:

-
Available in glass or plastic jar configurations
-
Transparent design allows you to visually inspect the training aid

Odor Permeable Membrane Assembly:

Each TADD features a specialized odor permeable membrane assembly that:

-
Includes a gas-tight, chemical-resistant gasket
-
Uses a hydrophobic and oleophobic membrane, allowing vapor to pass while repelling liquids
-
Is housed in a custom polypropylene membrane holder with a safety grid to prevent punctures

This design safely contains liquids, oils, solids, small particulates, and even certain hazmat materials, while still allowing target odor to be detected by the dog.

Gas-Tight Lid:

The lid helps control when and where odor is available, improving both safety and training precision.

-
Made from chemical-resistant polypropylene
-
Forms a gas-tight seal when closed
-
Used to shut down odor off-gassing during storage or transport
